Privacy & Fan Mail terms

Peanut Comics is made by Game Labs LLC. This page explains what we keep, why, and how Peanut Fan Mail works.

Accounts

• Reading comics needs a free account. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase, and we keep the account's email address to recognise you.
• Kids under 13 should have a parent or guardian create the account.
• A grown-up sets up each reader with a first name and an age. We use the age to pick a reading level, and the first name and age to personalize comics. A parent PIN protects the grown-ups area.
• So grown-ups can see how reading is going, we keep each reader's reading stats: which comics and pages they read, reading time, story choices made and stickers earned.
• Your place in each comic, story choices and sticker board layout are also saved in your own browser.

Verifying your email

• To unlock bonus comics, Fan Mail and payments, we email you a 6-digit code from Peanut Comics (sent through Resend, an email service). We keep a scrambled copy of the code for 10 minutes to check it, and a note that your email is verified.
• We only use your email for your account, codes and receipts. No newsletters unless you ask.

Peanut Fan Mail

• Fan Mail is for parents and guardians (18+) to buy for a child, or for adults buying it for themselves.
• The free Fan Mail week needs a verified email and a grown-up's OK. It's digital only (nothing is mailed), needs no card, and simply ends after 7 days.
• You type your card and mailing address on Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe handles the payment. We never see or store the card number.
• We keep the name and mailing address from checkout so we can put it on the envelope. We also keep the child's first name if you give one (for "Dear ___"), and the letters and drawings sent to Peanut so Peanut can write back. Members can read them again in Peanut's Mailbox.
• Please keep letters to Peanut to a first name and a message. Don't include addresses, phone numbers, schools or last names.

Custom comics ($1)

• In the grown-ups area, a parent or guardian can describe a story and pay $1 for the Peanut Comics team to make it into a comic, usually within 8 hours.
• We keep the story, the title, the reader's first name and age, and the finished comic, so your family can read it. People on the Peanut Comics team read the story to make the comic.
• Please use first names only. Don't include last names, addresses, schools or anything else that identifies a child.
• If we can't make a comic (for example, if the story isn't suitable for kids), we decline it and refund the $1 in full.

Payment safety

• To stop stolen cards being tested on our site, when you start a payment we check the IP address you're connecting from with IPQualityScore and Scamalytics, two fraud-prevention services. They tell us whether the address looks like a VPN, proxy or known source of abuse. We send them the IP address only, not your name, email or card.
• We keep a short log of payment attempts (time, account email, IP address and the result) for our records, and we limit how many attempts one account or connection can make.
• If your connection looks risky, your bank may ask you to confirm the payment, or we may ask you to turn off your VPN and try again.

Schools and classrooms

• Teachers make a free teacher account with a verified email. They confirm that they are school staff and that their school allows them to use free reading websites with students. The school acts for parents in allowing classroom use.
• Students don't make accounts and never give an email. A teacher adds each student's first name and age (or the student joins with the class code), and the student signs in with the class code, their name and a secret picture.
• For each student we keep only their first name, age, secret picture, reading level and reading stats (pages, minutes and finished comics). Only their teacher can see them. Students can't chat, message anyone, buy anything or see ads.
• Teachers can remove a student, and their reading history, at any time. Deleting a class deletes all of its data. Parents can ask the teacher, or email us, to see or delete their child's data.
• Teachers who review Peanut Comics may send us feedback. We use it only to improve Peanut Comics.

Visits, invites and bot checks

• We count visits and sign-ups by where they came from (for example "instagram" or "invite"), as daily totals only. We don't use tracking cookies, and the counts can't be linked to a person.
• Each account gets an invite link. When someone joins through it, we note which account invited them, only to award the inviter a sticker.
• To stop bots, a few actions (email codes, the free week and checkouts) may use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real browser is being used. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
• Favorites, stickers and story choices are saved on your device, not on our server.

What we never do

• We don't sell or rent anyone's information, and we don't show ads.
• We only share what each service needs: Google Firebase for sign-in, Stripe for payments, IPQualityScore and Scamalytics for checking the IP address when you pay, Resend for sending email verification codes, Cloudflare for security and bot checks, and the postal service for the address on the envelope.

Price, billing and cancelling

• Fan Mail costs $15 a month. It's charged once a month, starting the day you subscribe, until you cancel.
• Cancel anytime from "Manage Fan Mail" in your library. Cancelling stops future charges, and letters keep coming until the end of the month you've paid for.
• Letters mail in the first week of each month, to US addresses only. Your first letter goes out in the next monthly mailing.
• If a letter hasn't arrived by the 20th of the month, reply to your Fan Mail receipt email and we'll send it again.

Deleting your information

Email [email protected] from the address on the account to ask us to delete your account, your Fan Mail details, or a child's letters, drawings and reading history, and we will within 30 days. Payment records that the law requires us to keep stay with Stripe.
